George Omondi, the chairman of the UASU University of Nairobi (UoN) chapter, has weighed in on the leadership crisis that the premier higher learning institution is grappling with.
Speaking during an interview with Citizen Television, Mr Omondi held the view that the crisis was a high stakes game with entrenched business interests at play.
The interests, according to the UASU official, range from insurance to security to supplies.
The UASU UoN chapter chairman went on to say that the people who have long had business interests in the institution would want a favourable arrangement.
"There are business interests in this university and the business interests fan from insurance, security and various supplies. There are people who have enjoyed all these benefits for a very long time," the UASU University of Nairobi Chapter chairman said.
George Omondi's words came on the back of a reversal by a court of law of the decision by the Ministry of Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha to revoke the appointment of Prof Stephen Kiama as the University of Nairobi's substantive vice-chancellor.
The tough-talking CS said the appointment had been revoked because there was a need for wider consultations.
Prof Magoha served as UoN's VC before being moved to the Kenya National Examinations Centre and later to the Education Ministry.
