The Garissa County Assembly on Friday unanimously passed an autism education motion.
Parents of children living with the health complication have now been given a chance to ensure their children get education as they prepare them to join the job market.
In the past, children living with autism felt neglected in the society before the motion sailed through.
Waberi MCA Hussein Dagane who moved the motion, said that he is glad with the new development.
Dagane also noted that children with this complication deserve better treatment as they seek to contribute to the society in different ways.
He noted that the rising cases of children with the problem prompted the need to present the motion at the floor of the assembly before it was passed.
The passing of the motion makes Garissa the first county to adopt the same in the entire nation. Research indicates that one child in every 40 children has autism.
The government has been setting up Early Childhood Development centres to handle these cases.
Parents of children with the problem have been forced to stay with them at home because they cannot access education.
The motion is expected to benefit thousands of children who had lost hope in life.
Autism Lights Inc, which supported the motion, has asked other counties to adopt the same.
