Opposition leader Raila Odinga's wife Mama Ida has blasted her daughter-in-law Lwam Bekele of insincerity and dishonesty over the ongoing property row.
In a response to court, Mama Ida maintains that Lwam, the widow of her late son Fidel Odinga, knows about existence of Fidel's other lover.
According to her, Lwam was aware of the twins born after Fidel's death and their mother Phoebe Akinyi. Mama Ida says that she doesn't understand why the sudden change of heart.
On Wednesday, Justice Aggrey Muchelule ordered the parties involved to have DNA test done on the kids to establish their relationship.
“The petitioner has deliberately failed to include and provide or otherwise show the intention of providing for the said minors hence a red flag on her intentions,” Ida said.
However, Bekele through her lawyers termed her mother-in-law's assertions as a concoction of facts given that the said twins were born six months after Fidel's death.
“In the birth certificates attached to the affidavit in support of the cross-petition, there is no indication of the father of the said minors. The said birth certificates do not thus prove paternity of the minors,” Bekele said.
Although little is known about Phoebe Akinyi, Ida insists that all family members are aware of her existence, adding that Lwam is acting in bad faith.
She wants the kids to be included as dependants of Fidel's estate. On Wednesday, Mama Ida suffered a blow when the court declined request to block the media from highlighting the matter.
“The law does not allow the names of minors, and if the media gives children's names it would be offending Children’s Act. That’s the only thing I would be worried about,” the judge said.
