Former powerful Head of Civil Service and Finance Minister Mzee Simeon Nyachae is still sick and unable to attend functions, Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i has confirmed.
Mzee Nyachae, a one time tough politician is respected across the country but for years now, he has been off public limelight due to illness.
For the second big funeral in a row, Dr Matiang'i represented Mzee Nyachae, his close kin, signifying the trust the old man has towards the minister.
Speaking at Kerumbe on Sunday, Dr Matiang'i said the octogenarian was unwell thus his inability to attend the funeral of billionaire entrepreneur Stephen Mogeni.
"Our Mzee, Simeon Nyachae, would have loved to attend the funeral of his friend Mogeni. However, due to an illness, he was unable to," said Matiang'i.
Similarly, during the burial of former Nyaribari Masaba MP Dr Hezron Manduku, Dr Matiang'i, who served as Nyachae's assistant, represented him and President Uhuru Kenyatta.
"You know he usually intends to come in person during such functions. Some of you understand him well. He has sent condolences to the family," he added.
Since last year, the former presidential candidate has been in and out of hospital. At one point, he was admitted at a London hospital for several months.
Mr Nyachae lost his Nyaribari Chache seat in 2007 to little known Dr Robert Monda. Since then, be decided to quit politics for private ventures.
