President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday awarded the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Noordin Haji over the fight against tax evasion and illegal businesses.

Speaking on Tuesday at Safari Park Hotel, Nairobi when he presided over the 2019 Annual Taxpayers Day, Uhuru said that he is impressed with the work of the DPP.

  He noted that Haji has been very supportive to the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) in the increment of tax collection. He also said that the good work of the DPP has borne fruits over the past months since he assumed office.

"H.E the President awards the ODPP for being one of the most facilitative Government Agencies in the fight against tax evasion and illicit trade during this years KRA Taxpayers' Day," he said.

 Uhuru also asked KRA to put in place measures to ensure there is no tax evasion. He said that the cases of evasion must be dealt with to ensure there is economic development. He asked leaders and other Kenyans to support KRA and other agencies in the collection of tax.

“I direct Treasury, KRA, office of the AG to make recommendations that will strengthen the tax enforcement legal framework. KRA must have power to address tax evasion, expedite dispute resolution process…” he said.
