In a post, ODM Director of Communications Philip Etale claimed that the embattled legislator endorsed Mr Okoth in the race to succeed Ken Okoth who died in July.

"Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa today officially ditched Team Tangatanga and vowed to vigorously campaign for Bernard Okoth Imran for the Kibra Parliamentary Seat.

"She attended the party Parliamentary Group meeting at County Hall chaired by Party Leader H.E. Raila Odinga. Imran was also introduced to the members," he wrote.

The post caused anxiety within the political cycles of Deputy President William Ruto given Ms Jumwa's influence in his camp especially within the coastal region.

But in a rejoinder, Ms Jumwa, who attended a function at Mash Park Hotel on Tuesday evening, insisted that she supports Mr McDonald Mariga for the Kibra seat.

"This evening I did join the Deputy President William Ruto and other legislators and memet with Devine church elders and pastors at Mash Park Hotel Nairobi in a bid to support Mariga for Kibra Constituency," she said.

"A lot has been said but don't take it serious. I know where my heart is and that's why I am here. The competition is between us and them. Just ignore Ramadhan Khamisi," she said.

Dr Ruto is keen to give ODM leader Raila Odinga a worth competition in Kibra by-election, and is said to be keen to use the polls to send a strong signal ahead of 2022 polls.

For over two decades, Raila Odinga controlled Kibra politics when it was still under Lang'ata constituency. He is one of experienced Nairobi politicians.
