The prosecution on Deputy President William Ruto's aide Dennis Itumbi on Thursday sought to detain him for 14 days. This is to allow time for investigations.
The prosecution wants to forensically examine Itumbi's phone citing that the matter being investigated is sensitive and touches on the security of state house hence it would be taken as a joke if the accused is released.
Among investigations to be conducted include looking into a whatsapp group called Tanga Tanga movement with over 250 people.
According to the defence, the arrest of Itumbi was just for drama because the WhatsApp group has over 250 people who have not been arrested.
"The whatsapp group includes governors, senators and Mps who are influential yet here is a mere public servant Itumbi who is not in a position to interfere with or influence these influential members," said the defence.
Itumbi was arrested on Wednesday in Nairobi's CBD and taken to DCI headquarters.
He spent the night at Muthaiga police station.
Last weekend detectives said that investigations into the alleged assassination plot had narrowed down to two aides suspected to have generated and circulated the letter.
The authorities indicated that the duo from the Communications department was behind the document that created a storm.
Four cabinet Secretaries were summoned by the DCI last week in conjunction with the plot.
