Speaking to the press in Eldoret town on Wednesday, Ole Saoinah said the schools were not fit for students to conduct their education.

“I want to confirm that as the Ministry of Education we have closed 8 schools. We are implementing a government directive to the latter and we are going to close more schools and no intimidation or threats whatsoever will stop us,” he said.

“The affected students have been transferred to Atinas Kandie and Huruma primary schools respectively where they will continue with their education,” he added.

Ole Saoinah reiterated that there will be no additional costs in the new schools since the students will go with the uniforms they used to put on in the private schools.

He, however, did not mention the names of the schools closed.

He said the closed schools were not registered, didn’t have trained and registered teachers, while others had poor infrastructures such as toilets and classrooms.

Ole Saoinah said the exercise will continue until all schools comply with the Education Act that ensures children learn in a conducive environment.

He urged parents to vet the condition of various private schools before taking their children there.
