Thousands of residents of Western Kenya are set to convene at Bukhungu Stadium on January 18th where the Building Bridges Initiative report is set to be discussed.

Both President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga have confirmed attendance, amid leadership differences in the region.

In a statement on Thursday, the ODM party said the meeting has nothing to do with the party, adding that it's a BBI affair.

“ODM has the capacity to call for its own rally to talk about anything and people will come in large numbers," ODM said in a tweet.

"The Bukhungu meeting has been organized by the team responsible for the BBI and we shall be there as local leaders to talk about what we want addressed," it added.

A section of leaders from Western Kenya has opposed the meeting, with Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula leading the battalion.

Elders from the region had also distanced themselves from the meeting on grounds that it's not inclusive.

“The truth is that Uhuru’s name is being used to entice the reluctant elders because there is no logic in a President attending a BBI seminar where he isn’t a participant or expert facilitator,” the elders said in a statement, according to the Star.
