President Uhuru Kenyatta has received praises from Liberian Vice president Hon Jewel Taylor for his great efforts to finish Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in Kenya come 2022.
Speaking on Thursday at State House she noted that to this effect, President Kenyatta had organized different opinion leaders from 22 counties to achieve this goal.
The leaders who include elders from communities much affected by FGM endorsed a declaration that will enable end the vice which has been a thorn in the flesh for several years.
The president, optimistic of achievements of the Anti - FGM efforts, described how long the journey has been and what it has taken various stakeholders to make the country to make such progress.
“It has been a long journey involving all stakeholders. We are glad it bore fruits with the signing of the declaration," he said as quoted by Nation.
The vice president who had come to attend the International Conference on Population and Development held at KICC in Nairobi, said that she was also challenged to see Kenya concerned with empowering women and vowed to copy the same to her home country.
This was after she, in the company of the head of state, visited a factory in Karen where women made ornaments and other handmade objects for sale.
