This comes at a time when some politicians have been doubting if the two remain close together as was the case before, due to the apparent widening rift between the two.

But Okango, in an interview on K24 on Monday, said that the declaration of the divorce of the 2013 union should be left to the two, as they are the ones in the said marriage.

"The only people who can tell us that their marriage is over is the President and his DP!" he said, amid the DP's denials about the claims that himself and Uhuru are growing apart.

Also, Okango observed that the closeness between Uhuru and ODM leader Raila Odinga, after their 2018 trice dubbed the 'handshake, has not done much for Kenyans.

He stated that though supposed to save the country, the handshake is yet to be fully embraced by Kenyans, making it not so beneficial.

"Coming together of Uhuru and Raila was good for this country, but the product that came with a handshake has not been welcome by so many people, even though it has been modelled to save this country," he added.

The handshake has since been transformed into a constitutional amendments push.

This has been packaged as one of the avenues being used to bring changes, by among others, introducing a more inclusive leadership system.
