Deputy President William Ruto must find a way to visit retired President Daniel Moi in Kabarak and ask for forgiveness, Francis Atwoli has said.
The nonagenarian is currently admitted at Nairobi Hospital where the family says he's being monitored by his doctors in the routine medical check-up.
Moi, 95, served the country for 24 years as president and another 10 years as Vice President. He's credited for the trajectory of DP William Ruto.
And in Moiben on Saturday, Central Organisation for Trade Unions boss Atwoli insisted that Dr Ruto should reconcile with Moi, adding that the elder's blessings are necessary.
“Even if it means knocking at Baringo Senator Gideon Moi doorstep at night, he must do so because it is prudent for him (the DP) to seek blessings and forgiveness from Mzee Moi. He has to meet Mzee Moi,” said Mr Atwoli.
He asked Kenyans to shun the politics of hatred and tribalism.
“Mzee Moi warned us against bad politics and we should not go that route again and politicians should shun leaders preaching divisive politics. Democracy gave Kenyans an opportunity to express themselves peacefully and we should uphold that because Kenya is a regional hub,” he said.
Ruto managed to inherit Kalenjin nation from Moi in 2007 and the two are yet to see each other eye to eye for years now.
Last year, Ruto's attempt to meet Moi were thwarted with some of his allies accusing Baringo Senator Gideon Moi of plotting to embarrass the DP.
“As the chairman of Kalenjin MPs, I have time and again sought an appointment so we can go and visit Mzee. Ni ngumu (It is complicated). Those opportunities are given in bits like Panadol by his son,” claimed Kipchumba Murkomen.
This year, Ruto attended the funeral of Mr Jonathan Moi, the nonagenarian's firstborn. He did not, however, meet the elder in Kabarak.
