A 63-year old ground nut seller has been arrested for marrying a 12-year-old girl in Bungoma.

The man identified as William Simiyu was arrested after members of the public tipped off police officers.

It is alleged he has married the girl for over a month since it is same period she disappeared.

According to Simiyu, the girl asked him for a hand in marriage.

"She asked that I marry her as she was tired of going to school," he said.

However, the minor denied the allegations stating that she had no idea on how she ended up in the man's house.
