Iran has released the British-flagged-tanker; Stena Impero that was seized in July; after Iran had accused her of flouting maritime regulations in the Strait of Hormuz according to NYTimes.
Axios reported that on July 19 Iran captured a British-flagged tanker; Stena Impero and blamed the United Kingdom for violating maritime regulations in the Strait of Hormuz; a thing that analyst saw as retaliation by Iran following the detention of its oil tanker by British off the coast on Gibraltar.
At the time of capture, the ship was arrested with 23 members crew. Iran had released seven crew this month.
With the move coming on the backdrop of accusation against Iran, for shooting drones, capturing of tankers and the recent attacks on installation oils in Saudi Arabia; Tehran hope to ease the building tension with the Persian Gulf neighbours, the United States and its allies, including the British.
In addition, Iran is deemed to have reciprocated, following British's release of its oil tanker.
Washington Post reported that Iran government spokesman, Ali Rabiyee was quoted by The NYTimes, speaking, "The legal proceedings against the Stena Impero have concluded, and Iran has decided to waive alleged violations."
It's now a matter of when, the vessel will leave Iran, as the move brings to an end a two months simmering tension between Iran and British following the capture of the oil tanker vessel.
