Rarieda Member of Parliament Otiende Amollo has said that the formation of a tribunal to investigate the conduct of Supreme Court Judge Jackton Ojwang was a waste of time.
In an interview on NTV’s Am Live on Tuesday, Amollo said that Ojwang was innocent from the onset. He argued that the accusations leveled against the lawmaker were baseless.
This is after the Tribunal cleared him over allegations of misuse of office.
The tribunal comprised of Justice Alnashir Visram (chairman), Festus Azangalala, Sylvia Wanjiku Muchiri, Amina Abdalla, Ambrose Weda, Andrew Bahati Mwamuye, and Lucy Kambuni.Otiende argued that the allegations leveled against Ojwang lacked merit.
“It was clear from the beginning that the idea for forming up a tribunal to investigate was unnecessary given the allegations that were being put forward,” he said.
Amollo also said that Justice Njoki Ndung’u was in a similar situation but she walked away without punishment.
“The idea of forming a tribunal because he had declined to appear before the JSC was irrational because there was a similar investigation against Justice Njoki Ndungu who has similarly declined to appear, but no tribunal was formed for her,” he said.
Ojwang has since been ordered to resume his duties with immediate effect after the development.
