The County Government of Garissa has dismissed allegations that a local hospital in the region was offering poor services to the public.
This is after a local politician claimed that Sankuri Health Centre lacked enough health personnel and has been operating without enough drugs.
The Department of Health and residents of Sankuri division have however refuted the claims, saying that the hospital is well equipped.
Garissa County Government Press Unit noted in a Facebook post that county officials had confirmed that the health facility was offering quality services to local residents.
A team of health officials led by the Sub-County Medical officer of Health Dr Mohamed Aden visited the health centre on Wednesday.
The team confirmed that the hospital that serves the entire division has enough health personnel and sufficient drugs to serve the community.
“The centre has two nurses, a public health officer, a nutritionist, a community health worker, a pharmacist and lab technician,” said Dr Mohamed.
Elders led by Hassan Maalim Ali and Health Committee members led by Aden Bulle said they have received the necessary support from the county government to ensure the facility operates well.
“We initially had one single nurse serving the health center that was serving a large population but recently the County Government of Garissa posted enough health personnel and we are appreciative of the services offered,” said Maalim.
The leaders termed the allegations as unfortunate, arguing that the youth leader who made the claims was seeking attention.
