A Guardian investigative report revealed that Trump's administration was well aware of the arrival of the Iranian Military Commander well ahead of time.

Soleimani travelled to Baghdad Airport on the fateful night by private charter and was greeted by a close associate Mahdi al-Muhandis, the deputy leader of the Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF).

Details about his arrival had already been handed over to the US intelligence community.

A highly sophisticated Reaper 9 drone had been dispatched to the airport and was busy transmitting movements of Qassem and al-Mohandis without their knowledge.

It is that state-of-the-art drone that brought death to the two leaders and their associates, Arab News reported.

The drone unleashed two hellfire missiles that slammed into the convoy with deadly precision.

According to the Arab News report, the drone was being controlled remotely in Nevada.

Another drone was also reported to have been dispatched as a backup but did nothing as the first one completed the job it had been sent to do.

The drone that killed the two leaders has a range of 1,850 kilometres and can fly to a height of up to 15,000 metres.

Soleimani's body arrived in Iran on Sunday ahead of his burial on Tuesday.
