Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot has dismissed Environment CS Keriako Tobiko as a tribal bigot, a day after the goverment returned to evict Mau forest settlers.
In a tweet on Saturday, Cheruiyot, who has been critical of the evictions, challenged Tobiko to extend the same force to other forests.
Rift Valley leaders had opposed the evictions, arguing that the affected families will have nowhere to move to. They accused Tobiko of playing tribal cards.
"So when does the tribal bigot of a minister intend to move in with the same vigour against invaders into Ngong Forest ? Abadares?" he questioned.
On Friday, Tobiko said that at least 90 per cent of settlers had moved out of Mau without any goverment intervention.
He insisted that the decision to kick out illegal settlers was a government resolution.
“The settlers left voluntarily. The exercise was done in a humane and judicious manner and we expect by the end of today to recover the whole of Maasai Mau water tower, all this has been done without firing a bullet, clobbering anyone or even burning houses,” Tobiko said.
Rift Valley Regional Commissioner George Natembeya warned politicians against incitement. He said that any politician implicated will be dealt with as an individual.
"We will be monitoring those evicted, any attempt to return will be meet with the full force of the law," he said.
