Appearing before Resident Magistrate Pascal Nabwana, Muihaki told the court that she put insecticide in her nine-month-old baby's food out of anger.

She is said to have made the attempt following a disagreement with the baby's father, Mustafa Kibwana, whom she accused of refusing to help her take care of the baby.

“I was angered by the actions of the child’ father who has neglected us and refused to fend for my children,” Muihaki said as quoted by the Standard

Muihaki further revealed to the court that she wanted to kill the child because she always reminded her of Kibwana.

The court heard that Muihaki attempted to kill her daughter on September 27, 2019.

She also revealed that she thought of killing herself but then thought of her other six children.

“I had to make a choice to kill myself or the child. It was easier to kill the child because I have other six children I have to fend for,” said Muihaki.

Fortunately, the child refused to eat the poisoned food. Muihaki then decided to take the child to her father and dropped her at his doorstep.

Muihaki's case will now be heard at the Senior Resident Magistrate Court as directed by Magistrate Nabwana.

"I direct that this file be placed before the Senior Resident Magistrate in Lamu for plea taking," said Nabwana.
