The Directorate of Criminal Investigations detectives arrested two criminals believed to be members of a gang that has been giving residents in Likoni sleepless nights.
In a tweet on Wednesday, the DCI revealed the names of the two who were arrested.
''TWO WANTED CRIMINALS believed to have been terrorizing residents in LIKONI, Mombasa County were earlier yesterday arrested by #DCI Detectives following a tip-off from members of public. The two; Abdallah RASHID & Brian OCHIENG both 18yrs, were nabbed in a raid when Detectives,'' said DCI.
According to the DCI, locals saw a group of six youths, armed with pangas and slashers with other tools, assembled in an unfinished building in Likoni.
They reported to the police who moved into action immediately.
The youths who were planning on attacking residents were ambushed by the police.
Two of the suspects were arrested while others managed to escape.
2 pangas, 2 slashers, one sword and one metal bar were recovered by the police at the scene.
The police have launched a manhunt for those who escaped. The two who were captured will be arraigned in court today, Wednesday.
Police in the coastal region have been put on alert following the emergence of various criminal groups of youths terrorizing residents.
