The Kenyan Wildlife Service (KWS) has stopped the use of British sterling pound and the Euro in the processing of park entry charges.
However, the Kenyan shilling and the US dollar can be used in transactions at game reserves and national parks as mandated by the State cooperation.
“This means that KWS shall henceforth transact in two currencies only; Kenya Shillings (Kes) and the United States Dollars ($),” KWS said in a statement as quoted by Citizen.
However, KWS has remained silent on why they discounted the use of Euro and Sterling pound in the processing of park entry fees.
This move will force tourists visiting national parks and game reserves to convert their British sterling pounds and the Euro to US dollars or Kenyan shillings before making transactions with KWS.
On the brighter side, master card, Safaricom's M-Pesa, Cooperate cheques, and Visa still remains the mode of cashless transactions.
Tourists have been encouraged to use the cashless mode of transaction to ease accessibility at national parks and game reserves.
Wildlife conservancies are among the major foreign exchange earners for the country. The government has declared war on anyone who will be found interfering with wildlife.
