A pupil from Kitandi primary school in Kilungu, Makueni County will be forced to sit for his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams without hands.
This is after his brother chopped off his hands after an argument a few days ago.
Confirming the incident, Makueni County Commissioner Mohammed Maalim said the boy identified as Benard Musembi studies with his younger brother who is in class seven.
He said the two fought and when the younger brother saw he could not win, he rushed, took a panga and cut off his brother's hands.
"His younger brother cut off his hands after they had an argument. Yes, he is the younger brother, when he saw he could not win, he rushed took a panga and cut off his hands.(Ndugu yake alimkata mikono baada ya kuzozana, ndio ni nduguye mdogo, alipoona anashindwa alikimbia na kuchukua panga aliyotumia kumkata nduguye mikono)," Maalim said on Tuesday morning.
He, however, noted that the candidate was treated and is dong well.
"The boy has been treated and we hope he will be able to do his exams without problems," he said.
The case was reported at Nunguni police station and investigations are ongoing.
A total of 32,982 pupils in the county started their KCPE exams today in 961 centers.
