Makueni Governor Prof Kivutha Kibwana has been criticised after he reportedly travelled to the United States of America without an aide and his State-assigned bodyguards.
According to activist Boniface Mwangi, Kibwana arrived in New York on Wednesday without an aide and security team during a function organised by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
"With Kenya's next President Kibwana in New York city. He flew all the way to New York alone, no PA, no bodyguard, true servant leadership. Hapa Kazi Tu," said Mwangi in a tweet on Wednesday.
However, Kibwana's move to travel on his own was criticised by renowned lawyers Donald Kipkorir and Silas Jakakimba who termed it as ill-advised.
"As a governor, it is okay for him to travel with an aide. There are so many ways in which a competent aide would help him get the most from his engagements here and away. Encourage him to travel with one so long as he is in office," tweeted Jakakimba who served as a personal assistant for ODM leader Raila Odinga.
On his part, Kipkorir accused Kibwana's handlers of misleading him that travelling abroad alone would show he is a humble leader.
"Brother Jakakimba, the Prof is being flattered... That a leader can work without aides is the height of idiocy ..... Leaders are not gods! Can the governor send mail from New York? Does he have on his fingertips all data on Makueni? Humility is overrated," Kipkorir posted on Thursday.
