Chronic knee pain can be a major cause of concern that needs your attention.
The condition can be painful and life-threatening if not treated. Some underlying conditions can cause and contribute to this ailment. The symptoms vary from one person to another and can be mild or severe
Here are some of the many causes of knee pain as highlighted by William Morrison, MD, an orthopaedic surgeon.;
1. Osteoarthritis
It is a form of arthritis, affecting mainly older people, caused by chronic degeneration of the cartilage and synovial membrane of the joints, leading to pain and stiffness. Osteoarthritis has been linked to knee pain.
2. Tendinitis
It is an inflammation of tendons, an inelastic fibrous tissue that connects a muscle with a bony attachment. The inflammation might as well occur in the knees that later cause a feeling of tenderness and pain. Knee pain could also reveal that you are suffering from tendinitis.
3. Bursitis
Another infection associated with knee pain is bursitis. It is an inflammation a bursa, most common in the shoulder, elbow or knee. You will want to see a doctor after experiencing some pain on your knee.
4. Gout
It is an extremely painful inflammation of joints, especially of the big toe, caused by a metabolic defect resulting in the accumulation of uric acid in the blood and the deposition of urates around the joints.
The excess uric acid in the body causes knee pain.
