Governor Granton Samboja has embarked on a campaign to dissolve the Taita Taveta County Government.
The Wiper party governor wants the county administration dissolved to pave way for fresh elections.
On Tuesday, the governor embarked on an exercise to collect at least 18000 signatures which are required to validate the move to dissolve the county government.
Samboja has urged residents in the county to take part in the exercise to ensure the petition sails through.
“I think the best gift we can give to the people of Taita Taveta is to go back to elections so that we’re chosen afresh,” he said as quoted by Citizen Digital.
Samboja added, “For those who will be re-elected, we will thank God; and to those who will not come back, we will also thank God. Because the Bible says we must give gratitude to God in all issues.”
The county boss further called on residents to maintain peace during the exercise.
“It is now all systems go, let us go to the villages and ask the people for votes. I want to ask the people of Taita Taveta to conduct this process in a peaceful manner," he said.
Samboja has been engaging in public squabbles with Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) over the controversial budget for the financial year 2019/2020.
In the budget, the MCAs allegedly allocated Sh41.6 million to each of their respective wards totalling to Sh.5.3 billion.
Governor Samboja is against the allocation saying the county will be operating on a deficit if the allocation is adopted.
