In a tweet, Havi said that the eviction will pave way for the conservation of the forest. The lawyer argued that the encroachment of the forest is a threat to the conservation of the environment.

Havi said that there is no better way to handle the matter rather than the eviction of the occupants with immediate effect.

“The majority view, informed by common sense, history, reason, and science is that Mau Forest should remain and be reclaimed as a forest. The human occupiers must leave the forest. There is nothing human rights about their eviction,” he tweeted on Sunday.

Environment Cabinet Secretary Keriako Tobiko has been summoned over the government’s plan to evict occupants of the land. The summon was delivered by Parliamentary Environment Committee Chair Kareke Mbiuki

“As a committee we will be inviting the CS next week when parliament resumes, to come and shed more light to parliament on the proposed phase II evictions before the exercise is conducted,” reads the statement.

The eviction plans continue to elicit mixed reactions from different factions with a section of Rift Valley Jubilee allied leaders opposing the eviction.
