A body of the driver of the vehicle which plunged into the Indian Ocean on Saturday morning has since been retrieved by a multi-agency team.
The vehicle plunged into the deep waters along Likoni channel, with Kenya Ferry Services claiming that the driver was driving at a high speed.
KFS says the body of the driver has since been retrieved following efforts by a multi-agency team under the Kenya Navy and Kenya Coast Guard.
"The body of the driver of the Likoni ill-fated car (Reg. KBX 475B) the late John Mutinda has been taken to Coast General Hospital Mortuary by Ferry police vehicle," KFS said in a statement shared on Facebook.
"The recovery exercise is being done by a combined team of Kenya Coast Guard Service, The Kenya Navy, and our rescue team."
The tragedy comes just two months after another vehicle plunged into the Likoni channel, killing two people on spot.
Mariam Kighenda and her daughter Amanda Mutheu died almost at the same scene when their vehicle plunged into the deep waters.
It took 13 days to retrieve the car and the bodies. Divers from South Africa and Kenya Navy worked closely to make the mission successful.
The incident forced a furious President Uhuru Kenyatta to send packing the entire Kenya Ferry Services board members.
Search and recovery mission of the vehicle is still going on. It's not clear whether the driver was alone during the incident.
