The MP who has largely been blamed for the assault of Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa, now says that he is not responsible for the MP's troubles on that day.

Speaking on Wednesday night, he said that though he was present where Barasa was being roughed up, he was actually the one trying to shield him from the angry youth.

He added that the Jubilee Party members blaming him for the incident are only using him to wipe their tears after Jubilee candidate McDonald Mariga's humiliating loss in the race.

"I never touched anyone. Tangatanga people are just trying to raise their supporters' emotions (Mimi sikuguza mtu, watu wa Tangatanga wanajaribu tu kuamsha emotions za watu wao)," he said on Radio Jambo's Mazungumzo Waziwazi.

The MP also dismissed those calling for his arrest over claims that he engineered the violence, which saw a number of notable politicians roughed up and kicked out of the constituency.

He said that he is innocent, and the reason why he remains a free man is because no one has reported him for breaking any law or assaulting anyone on that material day.

"This noise made by people calling for my arrest, they should know that no one has reported to the police that I beat them up (Hii kelele ati shika Arati, mimi hakuna mtu amesema kwa polisi eti Simba alinipiga)," he added.

In a press conference on Tuesday, some MPs claimed that Arati enjoys state protection through Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i and his Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho.

Led by Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung'wah, they claimed that ODM leader Raila Odinga agreed on the same with the two at a Karen hotel on the eve of the poll.

Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, National Assembly Majority Whip Benjamin Washiali and Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua also found themselves in trouble in Kibra on Thursday last week.
