County Commissioner David Kipkemei confessed to having received information regarding the floods. "I am waiting for a comprehensive report before giving a detailed statement about the disaster," CC Kipkemei told the Standard.

According to South Kanyikela location administrator Mr. Moses Ong'ong'a, affected families had already left their homes to higher areas in neighbouring regions.

"Most of the affected people have relocated to their relatives' homes to avoid more tragedies," Mr. Ong'ong'a told Standard.

The administrator also lamented how farmers had incurred huge losses after floods swept away the crops which were already due for harvest. He expressed concerns over how such would result in famine, as the villagers relied heavily on their farm produce.

The floods also washed away the Oyombe bridge, making it a difficult time for the traders to operate smoothly.

"Even bodaboda riders cannot access Ndhiwa town which is the sub-county headquarters because of the situation at River Oyombe. we call on government authorities to help solve this menace," said one of the residents identified as George Otieno.
