She was on her way to the hearing of a case she had filed against the two men who allegedly raped her.

The woman suffered severe burns as a result of the shocking attack.

Law enforcement authorities say that they have already arrested five men who are suspected to have set the rape victim on fire.

"The victim has been referred to a hospital in Lucknow for better treatment. The victim had earlier filed a rape case and one of the accused in that case has also been rounded up, " a police statement read.

Unnao district, where the incident occurred, is not new to rape as another woman was reportedly raped in the same district.

A murder investigation was opened by the authorities against a governing party legislator after a woman who accused him of raping her was critically injured in a car crash.

Media outlets reported that the lawyer and the aunts of the woman who accused the politician were later killed.

Residents took to the streets to express their outrage at the shocking incident, hardly a week after another rape was reported in what appears to be an Indian rape problem.
