A Tanzanian man is having a hard time after he reportedly lost Sh47,000 to fraudsters.
Awadh Hamadi has since been condemned to breathing using a machine after he developed blood pressure and breathing complications owing to the shock.
He has been admitted at the Muhimbili National Hospital for 10 days after he fell victim of the fraud, after trusting two government officials to help him procure a motorbike.
Hamadi says that he contacted the delegates of Kipawa Ward to witness him buying the motorbike from another man, and handed over the Tsh10.5 million (Sh47,000), only to learn he had been defrauded.
“I trusted him because I went through a local government office at Kipawa where I handed over the money with two area delegates being witnesses,” the man said as quoted by the Standard.
Kipawa Ward executive denied having details about the deal, while Habiba, one of the said witnesses, admitted knowing it also admitting that the ownership is yet to be transfered.
“Awadh called me and said he has been admitted but for now I am not in the office. Although the ownership of the Bodaboda is yet to be transferred to his name,” he said.
But Hamadi who says that he got the money through donations from well-wishers insists that he was defrauded in a deal he says also involved authorities.
