On Thursday, Mr Njiru termed speculations about the health of the nonagenarian 'hogwash' adding that members of the public should ignore rumours.

For the better part of Wednesday evening and Thursday, Kenyans have raised concerns about the former president's health, with some giving devastating information.

On Monday,Lee Njiru, who is Moi's long-serving aide, allayed fears about his health saying, "It is true [that] Mzee Moi went to Nairobi Hospital today (Monday) but it [was for] a routine medical check-up.”

He added: “It is prudent and advisable that everybody should go for medical check-up, so Mzee Moi went for a medical check up.”

Mr Njiru had also said Mr Moi's physician, Dr David Silverstein will determine how long he will stay at the hospital.

“He is expected to go back home but that will be at the discretion of his personal physician; he will make the final decision.”

Moi, 95, has been in and out of hospital for the last two years. He did not leave his car in May this year while attending the burial of his eldest son Jonathan Moi.

The former Head of State was in charge of the country for 24 years. He took over from Jomo Kenyatta in 1978. He handed over to Mwai Kibaki in 2002.
