Eating avocados on a daily basis can pose a greater risk to your health.
While they are highly nutritious in nature and come with endless benefits, when taken in excess, avocados can cause more harm than good.
Janet Renee, MS, RD, a clinical dietitian highlights the risks of eating too many avocados;
1. Avocado allergy
Excessive consumption of avocado could cause mouth allergy. It may make your lips, mouth and throat to itch usually within one hour of consuming them. The allergy may be accompanied by anaphylaxis, abdominal pain and vomiting symptoms.
If you have been experiencing these symptoms, you need to take avocados in moderation.
2. Digestive upset
Avocado is rich in fermentable oligo-, di-, monosaccharides and polyols that may affect the process of digestion. These fermentable carbohydrates can kindle the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome such as diarrhoea and bloat.
3. Migraines
Migraine is a severe, disabling headache, usually affecting only one side of the head, and often accompanied by nausea, vomiting and visual disturbances. Avocados contain tyramine which is believed to cause migraines.
Avocados have good cholesterol that nourishes the cardiovascular system and keeps the heart in good shape. However and on the contrary, avocados may lower cholesterol level when taken in large amounts. This is due to their sitosterol component that absorbs necessary cholesterol from the body.
