Coincidentally, the trip comes amid ongoing debate to have Dr Matiang'i running for President, a move that has divided local leaders.

Governors John Nyagarama (Nyamira) and James Ongwae of Kisii are expected to lead other leaders in a trip that would see Dr Matiang'i commissioning three police stations.

"We shall be accompanying him to the event. All what our people want is development and not mere politicking. We shall use the occasion to also rally unity of purpose," Nyagarama said.

Matiang'i start with Matutu Police Station in Borabu, then Keroka in Kitutu Masaba before ending his trip at Kenyenya in Bomachoge-Chache area.

Borabu MP Ben Momanyi on Thursday confirmed the trip, adding that dozens of leaders are expected to accompany the interior boss.

"Let's talk about politics in 2022. For now, we are engaging leaders in development. I thank the minister for agreeing to come to my constituency," he said.

Those expected include Senators Okong'o Mogeni, Sam Ongeri, MPs Jerusha Momanyi, Janet Ong'era, Richard Onyonka, Jimmy Angwenyi and Innocent Obiri.

Until going to press, none of MPs allied to DP William Ruto had confirmed attendance. Matiang'i shall be at Shadrack Mose and Alfa Miruka's territory and the two are his chief critics.
