Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago has said his administration has plans to construct ultra-modern assessment centres in the county to cater for children needs.
Mandago said this will help in assessment of children with different abilities and challenges such as autism.
"The children centres will have modern facilities and trained staff who will give the children proper facilitation to be able to learn and be great people in future," he said.
He spoke during the 13th edition of the Family Bank Eldoret half marathon which champions for children living with autism on Sunday.
"We will look for resources to ensure that centres are build. We want children with disabilities to get good learning environment just like their normal counterparts," he added.
He, however, said it is sad Kenyans don't know what autism is, and thus need for sensitisation, so that children with autism might be helped and not hidden at home.
All proceeds of the Family Bank half marathon go to the construction of classroms for pupils with autism at Sosiani primary school.
So far, the bank has constructed two classrooms each costing Sh1.5 million.
The two classes now have 56 students from Uasin Gishu and other parts of the country.
