Former presidential candidate and renowned scholar Prof James Ole Kiyiapi has weighed in on the mounting woes of embattled Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) Secretary-General Wilson Sossion.
In a tweet on Friday, Prof Kiyiapi appeared to fault the Ministry of Labour's dramatic move to oust the secretary-general.
He wondered why the ministry intervened into the matter yet there was a court injunction barring his ouster albeit in the interim basis.
"I don't hold forte for Wilson Sossion but I thought the court had stopped rival Knut executive officials from ousting him on interim basis? How does the Labour Ministry come in, legitimizing one side of the Union against the other contrary to court orders? Is something amiss?" Prof Kiyiapi's tweet read.
Prof Kiyiapi's intervention comes amid an internal revolt that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) nominated Member of Parliament faces from disgruntled union members.
Sossion's detractors contend that he ceased representing the interest of teachers across the country when he joined politics by accepting ODM's nomination.
A section of Knut card-carrying members has been calling for him to step down and allow somebody else to take over.
In an act of defiance, the teachers' union leader vowed to fight against his ouster in the courts.
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) deregistered Sossion as a teacher using his foray into politics as its basis.
