Speaking on Thursday in Parliament buildings, the governing Jubilee Party said that the prospect of gross human rights violations was real.

"I want to urge the media and other human rights watchdog committees and organisations in the country especially the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights to move in into the Mau and report all human rights violations that the state intends to mete on our people," Senator Cherargei said.

President Uhuru Kenyatta and DP Dr William Ruto, have, by and large, been silent on the Mau issue.

When they took a shot at the presidency in 2013, the Mau issue was a hot issue in the political agenda.

It is on that issue that veteran opposition and Orange Democratic Movement leader Raila Odinga fell out.

DP Ruto at the time was strongly opposed to the eviction of people from Mau that was being overseen by the then prime minister.

Led by Elgeyo Marakwet senator Kipchumba Murkomen, who doubles up as the leader of the majority in the Senator, leaders opposed to the Mau evictions have been calling for dialogue.

Environment Cabinet Secretary Keriako Tobiko held a closed-door meeting weeks ago with security officials in Narok county after which he said the eviction plan would go on as planned
