Police officers in Embu North Sub-County have launched investigations into a case where an 80-year-old woman was raped by an unknown suspect at her home in Ngerwe village.
According to reports from The Star, the incident took place on Thursday night at around 3:00am.
The victim of the sexual assault reported the incident at Kibugu Police Post after which the police officers visited her home and begun investigations.
The case was confirmed by Embu North Sub-County police boss Ben Murilo.
Apparently, the suspect managed to make his way into the woman's house before he committed the crime and fled away. Murilo noted the investigation was aimed at identifying and arresting the suspect so that they could prosecute him and consequently serve justice to the granny.
The granny further revealed that the suspect had broken into her house while she was sleeping and it was raining. Neither she nor her relatives and neighbours heard the suspect break-in due to the heavy rains.
She, however, tried alerting her neighbours and relatives of the intruder but her screams went unheard. It is only after the suspect had escaped that the woman was able to inform her relatives and neighbours of the ideal.
The police officers directed her to seek medical treatment before they could give her the P3 form.
