Before the messy court divorce between Meru Senator Mithika Linturi and former Chief of Staff at DP William Ruto's office Marianne Kitany became public, there were efforts to save it.
The two former love birds are embroiled in a divorce which is eclipsed with claims of infidelity and property row.
Mr John Kibii, a former police officer and an uncle to Kitany, says he tried to save the marriage through family meetings in Nairobi.
Kibii, 87, says he first met Linturi are Kileleshwa when he visited Kitany in 2015. The two had a brief chat before Linturi left for parliament.
"We took breakfast together and later he left me as he was going to Parliament for a meeting," Kibii said."
Later, he says, he was told by Kitany's mother that the two had confronted each other and they were living separately.
The old man then left for Nairobi in Runda where he could not meet Linturi. He reportedly spent a night at the home until the following day.
However, Linturi refused to allow him to solve the row, leaving the compound immediately after they took lunch.
"I later learnt through the media that the matter had taken a new turn and was in court," Kibii said.
The two are now battling over the control of multi-million properties with Linturi insisting that he was never married to Kitany at any time.
