Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua made a huge statement over the weekend when he openly joined the ODM caravan in support for Imran Okoth.

That sounded amazing but Dr Mutua made the step in a bid to try and silence his political nemesis Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka. This is so because Kalonzo is openly lobbying for the Ford Kenya candidate.

The county boss wants to capitalize on the Kibra by-election to see how best he can take on his political adversaries Deputy President William Ruto included.

He has joined ODM in the Kibra showdown to try and weigh his political muscles with Kalonzo’s.

The governor is not mandated by the constitution to run again because he is serving his second term. His intentions of openly joining the Kibra campaigns are geared towards forming a game plan that will aid him to stay politically active after 2022.

Since ODM confidants like Edwin Sifuna have declared that Imran Okoth is the candidate of the handshake, the governor wants to be seen as one of the leaders in full recognition of the handshake.

It should be remembered that the outspoken governor has declared interest to vie for presidency in 2022.

This could be one way of weighing his abilities on political podiums and also creating a platform for possible political alliances.

He wants to polish his loyalty to President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM chief Raila Odinga.

Having openly advocated for BBI, that is an indication that the Machakos governor is ready to assist the president to race against time in an attempt to achieve his big four agenda.
