Deputy President William Ruto has been accused of messing around with the minds of the Western Kenya community for political reasons, ahead of the 2022 elections.
The DP has been very frequent in the region, his latest tour coming only last week, trips which have been linked to his 2022 presidential dream, where he needs the region's backing.
But Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala now says that area leaders will not allow him to continue fooling the region, as he has not been of any help to the region during his stay in power.
Speaking on Tuesday, Malala also posed a tough question to allies of the DP from the region, demanding that they show the development they have been claiming he is bringing.
This was in reaction to Ruto's Friday announcement that the government will hand over its 20% shares in the Mumias Sugar company to Kakamega County Government as a revival strategy of the factory.
But Malala is of the idea that this is a useless move, and now wants answers from Ruto's allies who have been saying that the DP and the Jubilee leadership will hand down development.
"Giving the county shares that have debts is like transferring 20 per cent of Mumias loans to the county government. We are asking our brothers from Western who joined Jubilee at the instigation of the DP on the grounds they wanted the region to access development to tell us what the region has benefited from the Jubilee administration,” he is quoted by the Star.
Initial attempts by the government to revive the factory have been futile, including a Sh2 billion grant from the national government.
Malala has since crossed over to the opposition's Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), which is also very likely to front a presidential candidate in the very same poll.
