Ms Irene Mayaka, who serves as nominated MCA for the Orange party in Nyamira, is among five contestants in the inaugural Ms President competition whose main aim is to rally for women leadership.

On his Facebook page, Mr Owino, a former University of Nairobi student leader, asked Kenyans to vote for the youthful legislator, who is keen to win the race.

"Vote for this great lady. I have voted and I'll keep voting," said Owino in a post, becoming one of high profile leaders to endorse Ms Mayaka.

Ms Mayaka, who held campaigns in Nyamira last week, was nominated to the assembly in April after two years of court battle that saw one Damaris Mouni kicked out by the court.

The show is sponsored by Canadian government and European Union. The winner will have the two institutions launching a mega project at their county of origin.

Already, Speaker Moffat Teya has made a formal appeal to the residents of Nyamira to vote for Ms Mayaka, who at one time headed Daughters of Raila lobby group.

On Wednesday evening, the five contestants will participate in a presidential debate which will be aired live by KTN Home channel. On 31st July, a winner shall be announced.

"I am confident that through the people, I will carry the day. I have passion in women leadership and this is what I have been doing throughout my life,"  she said.

Others in the race are Betty Adera, Nereah Amondi among others. Public voting shall be one of the parameters to decide the winner.
