23:15: Interior CS Fred Matiang'i in his addresses to the Nation, says the situation is under control and that all the affected buildings had been secured by the security teams. He urges Kenyans to remain calm and be ready to go about their business since the country is safe.

22:01: At Avenue Hospital, at least 17 people had been treated and discharged, while five were admitted for further medical attention.

21:08: The Interior CS Fred Matiang'i has lined up an address to the Nation regarding the terror attack. Officers manning the building under attack are making their way to the seventh floor of the building in an effort to find the attackers.

21:00: Local media reports indicate at least 3 died at the Secret Garden restaurant in the Dusit complex attack. The elite police forces continue to comb the area to neutralise terrorists and evacuate people.

20:55: IG Joseph Boinett says many were injured following the apparent suicide explosion at Secret Garden hotel. He says six out of the seven floors at Dusit hotel have been secured.

EARLIER: More security personnel aboard two United Nations vehicles arrived at the Dusit hotel. Ambulances were on standby as the operation to flush out the gang and rescue lives was ongoing.

17:59: Earlier, Somali militia group Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility in the attack. The terror group spokesperson told Al Jazeera they were in control o the coordinated attack in Nairobi.

17:54: The Nairobi County Fire department has put out the fire that occurred after the vehicles were sprayed with bullets as response teams continue to evacuate 14 Riverside.

17:35: Australian forces from the adjacent Australia embassy and the Kenya Defence Forces special forces are part of those leading the efforts to combat the attack.

17:34: Bomb experts have defused explosives that were in a vehicle believed to have been used by the attackers. The officers had asked bystanders and the media to stay away from the vehicle after suspicion it could have contained bombs.

17:27:  Police say the attackers forced their way into 14 Riverside Drive by shooting at guards, they hurled explosives into vehicles and went into DusitD2 Hotel. A number of the victims were shot at their dining tables.

17:26: MP Shah sets aside an area to receive casualties of the Riverside terrorist attack. So far 4 casualties have been admitted at the hospital

17:15: The injured victims evacuated from the buildings are being taken to the Kenyatta National Hospital and MP Shah hospital. 

16:58: At least three people are feared dead even as the rescue operation continues.

16:39: Dusit Hotel staff and guests who had been trapped in the attack are currently being rescued by the police with those suffering gunshot wounds being attended to by Red Cross staff.

16:26: The DCI boss George Kinoti, is among top security personnel at the scene as Red Cross paramedics attend to gunshot victims.

16:20: Students and administrators from the University of Nairobi Chiromo campus, which is along Riverside drive, are being evacuated by police from the building.

16:15 There is fear that several people could still be trapped in the building suspected to be under attack.

16:10: Heavy security has been deployed from the General Service Unit (GSU). Police are trying to cordon off the scene. There is still an exchange of fire.

16:03: Police have responded to the gunshots and are at the scene. The area has been confirmed to be 14 Riverside.

There is confusion in Nairobi's Westlands area after gunshots were heard in the air.

It's not clear what exactly is happening and whether it is a robbery incident or a terror attack.

Also heard was an explosion, in what has caused anxiety and confusion among Nairobians living and operating in the area.
