A massive fire on Sunday evening left more than 15 students homeless at Serena residents at Moi University.
According to one of the residents, the fire which erupted at around 5:00 pm was caused by an electrical fault at room six of the apartments. The occupant of the room had gone out to fetch water when the fire started.
Luckily for the students, no casualties were reported.
The students tried to put out the fire but in vail due to the presence of gas cylinders and mattresses in the room.
“The students were very few here when the fire broke out. We tried to blow out the fire by using soil but we could not manage it. The next rooms had things like gasses and materials of the students. Most of the rooms were closed since the occupants were not around,” Omondi Oloo a student and nearby resident stated.
The students have been urged to corporate in helping those who were affected by the fire.
“I urge the comrades to accommodate those who were affected especially in terms of accommodation and even food,” Oloo noted.
So far there is no official communication from the school concerning the incident.
