Retired President Daniel Moi could spend a little bit longer in Nairobi Hospital despite the fact that he has shown tremendous improvement, his press secretary Lee Njiru has said.
According to Njiru, Moi has recovered from health scare but because of his old age, doctors want him to 'build' some more energy.
The long-time spokesman told the Nation on Monday that the medical team is extremely cautious to ensure that Moi recovers fully before he's discharged from the facility.
“Mzee Moi, who is being attended to by a team of medics led by his physician Dr David Silverstein has recovered. But because of his old age, his doctors feel he should build up his energy before he can be discharged. His medical team is being extra cautious with his care to ensure full recovery,” stated Njiru.
He said the retired president is doing well and thanked Kenyans for their prayers.
“Since Mzee Moi was readmitted to the hospital, he is getting better each day and we are confident God is taking care of him because of Kenyans’ prayers. We are very hopeful that in the next few days, he will be discharged to return to the care and comfort of his home,” he said.
Moi, 95, was first admitted at the facility in October. He was briefly released before being taken back again for more check-ups.
The former president has been leading a quiet life at his Kabarak home although he's said to be keen with the country's political progress.
He handed over to Mwai Kibaki in 2002. His son, Gideon Moi, who is serving as Baringo senator, is keen to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022.
