Kilifi Senator Stewart Madzayo was on Wednesday afternoon pronounced out of order in the Senate chambers for inappropriate dress code.
The Senate Speaker asked him to get out of the chambers and come back well dressed.
Coming to his rescue Siaya Senator James Orengo clarified that Madzayo's attire had been discussed in the previous government and it was allowed.
"Otiende Amollo in the National Assembly has been cleared to put on colourless shirts and coats as it was categorized as decent African dressing" Madzayo defended himself in a session broadcasted live through the Public Broadcast Unit (PBU)
According to the Senate Standing Orders on dress code, a Senator should be decently dressed at all times in the chambers and lounges area or be pronounced out of order where he or she is required to move out of the chambers and dress well.
"Members should at all times in the chambers, lounges, dining rooms and committee rooms be properly dressed; where properly dressed means a male senator should wear a coat, collar tie, long-sleeved shirt and long trousers," the speaker read out the Standing Order
Meru Senator Mithika Linturi said Madzayo was not properly dressed as his coat and shirt were collarless which goes against the dressing guidelines of the house.
