An elderly man instantly died on Thursday evening after a eucalyptus tree fell on him at Rioma, Marani in Kisii County.

Masaka Biina, a father of two was helping others in pulling trees they were cutting for timber using a rope but one fell on him accidentally crushing his head.

"We were cutting trees using a machine and he was helping us to direct the falling trees using a rope. Accidentally one fell on him. His head was crushed and he instantly died," said Stephen Ombati a colleague.

"It's a sad evening that we have lost this man. I received the sad news via phone call. He was a personal friend to me. It was a horrible accident he died a bitter death. We never expected the exercise to end with such sad news. It has really affected all of us," added Henry Amemo his friend.

Residents have regretted the ugly incident calling upon men to be watchful when they carry out such exercise to avoid accidents in the near future.
