Members of the Nakuru County Assembly (MCAs) are now claiming their lives are in danger after the recent attack of one of their colleague.
Menengai East Ward Representative Wilson Mwangi was attacked by a criminal gang outside his house on Tuesday.
After the attack, Speaker Joel Maina Kairu who led the MCAs in condemning the incident said security for the MCAs need to be beefed up in order to assure that they are well protected.
Speaker Kairu questioned why Members of Parliament (MPs) are provided with security yet MCAs who deal with the residents have no security.
“MCAs must be assured of their security following the incident involving Menengai East Ward Rep Wilson Mwangi Wajeff on Tuesday. Many people who want to grab public land are not happy with MCAs. MPs are assured of security and yet the MCAs who are constantly in touch with the residents at grassroots have no security,” said Kairu as quoted by Nation
The MCAs who called for an urgent meeting with security agencies in the county want the agencies to address insecurity in the county and investigate the gangs that are targeting MCAs.
Nakuru County Police Commander Simon Matu who confirmed the attack said investigations into the incident is ongoing.
“We don’t have any suspect so far but we are carrying out investigations,” said Matu.
