Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has claimed that he has been issued with threats after he publicly revealed his intention to attend the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) meeting in Mombasa slated for Saturday.
Without revealing the people behind the threats, Murkomen has promised to attend the meeting 'if that is what it takes to unite' Kenyans.
''I have been threatened that if I attend the Mombasa BBI meeting I shall be humiliated by being denied a seat, not being allowed to talk or even if I am allowed to talk I shall be heckled. If that’s what it takes to unite this country so be it&I am ready to absorb. Tukutane Mombasa,'' tweeted Murkomen.
Murkomen, a close ally of the Deputy President William Ruto, criticised how the other BBI meetings held at Kisii and Kakamega were conducted.
He argued that the agenda of the meeting was missed as they only focused on demonising one individual.
“To our utter disappointment, at recent public rallies in Kisii and Kakamega, leaders resorted to the very callous tactics rejected by the BBI report, backsliding into the reviled old order that Kenyans are running away from,” he said on Tuesday as quoted by Citizen Digital.
His (Murkomen) claims, however, come after their host, the Mombasa County Governor Ali Hassan Joho welcomed all leaders from all kinds of affiliation.
''This coming Saturday I welcome all Kenyans and leaders irrespective of their affiliations to join us at Tononoka Grounds, Mombasa as we further forge our focus on the productive agenda of the BBI that aims to help our nation achieve shared prosperity,'' Joho wrote on Wednesday.
The BBI report was initiated by President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga after the famous handshake to bring unity among Kenyans.
