Three bodies believed to be those of the missing wife and children of senior Kenya Defense Force (KDF) officer Major Peter Mugure were on Saturday found buried in Thingithu, Laikipia County.
This comes just a day after the officer was arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and questioned for the disappearance of his wife and children.
The officer's wife Joyce Syombua and her two children, Shanice Maua and Prince Michael, went missing 21 days ago after visiting him at the Laikipia Airbase.
The place where the bodies were buried is close to the Base where the family allegedly spent the night on the day they visited.
The three had been reported missing at Soweto Police Station by Syombua's mother Elizabeth Maua and at Nanyuki Police Station by Farizana, a friend.
Syombua's phone had gone off the next day after visiting her husband with whom they had domestic issues. It was later recovered in a public service vehicle. The operators of the vehicle which is registered to 4NTE matatu SACCO, however, denied coming in contact with the three missing persons.
According to reports from Citizen TV, Mugure who is the main suspect in the case has been interrogated three times. In a previous interrogation session, the officer admitted to receiving and hosting Syombua and the children.
